ABOUT EWASH
The Enhancing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (EWASH) program is a 5-year activity funded by USAID and led by Global Communities (GC). The program’s overall goal is to increase the adoption of sustainable and equitable WASH services and practices in households, communities, and health care facilities (HCFs). As part of this program, the EWASH Webinar series will enhance learning to guide successful implementation within the EWASH consortium. Consortium partners will use this platform to share successful case studies, stories, or results from their implementation. The webinar series will be held on a biannual basis.
RESEARCH AND LEARNING AGENDA
Within the EWASH program, Aquaya’s role is to coordinate research, learning, and knowledge dissemination. In this first session of the EWASH webinar series, we will introduce the priority topics in the EWASH research and learning agenda, developed through consultations with consortium partners, the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, and UNICEF Ghana. The agenda includes eight priority research and learning questions, relating to three broad topics:
- The economics of rural water supply
- Open defecation-free (ODF) sustainability
- Market-based sanitation
Participants will have the opportunity to offer feedback during the seminar.
LESSONS LEARNED
Also, during this first webinar session, we will share some lessons learnt from Aquaya’s previous work in Ghana, focusing on topics that are relevant to the research and learning agenda and to EWASH program implementation in general. In particular, we will share findings related to:
- Economic evaluation of handpump chlorinators
- Targeted water subsidies
- Sustainable water safety management
- Targeted sanitation subsidies in rural Ghana
